Derek J. Bell-
Former basketball player and stand out
at Sonoma State University in Northern California from 1988-1989
/1990-1991 and member of 1988-1989 NCAC Conference Champions.
Also played at Santa Monica College 1986-1988 and Los Angeles
High school 1983-1986,L.A. Ca. He has coached at numerous high
schools as an assistant coach and has spent countless years
conducting coaching clinics, running player development and
personal training programs in Sonoma County since 1995. Coach
Derek also starred in the first Reebok basketball shoe
commercial ever made (Youtube: Reebok commercial 1987). He is
dedicated to serve and give back to the community he has resided
in since 1988. Coach Derek loves teaching and educating children
about how sports can have a positive effect on ones life!
Mario Newton-
Born and raised in the east bay, Mario received
his basketball foundation at De La Salle high school in Concord
California. Two years out of high school, Mario began coaching CYO basketball in Marin county from 1988-1997. From 2003 until
present, Mario has been coaching in Sonoma County for St.
Elizabeth Seton CYO in Rohnert Park. He has spent numerous years
conducting coach’s clinics, team clinics, and camps in both
Marin and Sonoma counties. He also spent several years running
Player Development and personal training programs. Mario has
coached boys and girls AAU in Marin and Sonoma County, and
continues to coach now because of his passion for the game. He
gets excited about planning and implementing a practice plan,
building players confidence and basketball IQ, and watching
player’s growth both on and off the court.
